Honda TRX 250 TM

December 10, 2004

The TRX250TM is a rugged working quad with SUV styling that includes tubular steel carriers at each end and a solidly mounted bush bar; I'm not saying you could run this thing into a tree and get away unscathed – but the tree would remember you.

It's built around a slightly old-fashioned, 229cc pushrod OHV motor, tuned for torque with a 22mm slide carburettor, CDI ignition with electronic advance, rev limiter, automatic cam chain tensioner and a wet sump with a six-litre capacity.

An oil cooler as standard so it can lug heavy loads all day without overheating.

The motor is rubber-mounted to minimise vibration and mounted longitudinally so it can use a shaft final drive with a minimum of power-sapping turns in the drive line, via a five-speed gearbox with reverse and an automatic clutch.

The TRX250TM has a double cradle steel chassis with independent double-wishbone front suspension providing 130mm of travel and a sturdy steel monoshock swing-arm giving 125mm of movement.

Braking is entrusted to sealed drum brakes all round, hydraulic up front and cable-operated at the back.

It has improved ergonomics for rider comfort with 16mm higher handlebars and 10mm higher seat than the previous model to provide more leg-room and more room to move around during a long day in the saddle.

The TM has special shields that allow the rider’s feet to grip the footrests while keeping mud and debris away and a new LED tail and brake light.
