Honda's big bruiser upgraded for 2005

January 28, 2005

London, England - Traditional or "naked" motorcycles have grown in popularity on the British market in recent years with the Honda CB1300 a leader among the heavyweights.

For 2005 the 1300cc, four-cylinder bruiser has received some significant improvements, notably including anti-lock brakes.

The fuel injection system has also been re-tuned for improved throttle response throughout the rev range.

In addition to its urban cruiser persona, the CB1300 is an accomplished tourer, thanks to its upright seating position and strong mid-range power.

A half fairing has been fitted to make open-road running more comfortable.

It's been kept compact and sporty to match the "1980s muscle bike" styling of the CB1300, with more than a hint of the legendary CB1100RC in its lower edge treatment, leaving the big four-cylinder lump on show.

"These are solid improvements to an already solid motorcycle," said Honda UK communications manager Greg Willis.

"While these improvements to the CB1300 enhance both safety and comfort, they detract nothing from the original concept of the machine."

  • There are no plans to bring the CB1300 to South Africa. Honda SA spokesman Allen Brooke says naked bikes have never sold well here, mostly due to the long distances and high average speeds local riders achieve.
